Paintr's Journal

Book One of The Thrall Wars

Coming 2012!

A slave who must fight for his freedom...and the universe.

From the time of his birth, Paintr was a slave. But when his life in the mines becomes unbearable, Paintr is prepared to do whatever it takes to free himself. He leads a slave revolt to escape the mines, but the life he finds is not the one he had in mind. Instead, Paintr is recaptured and assigned to train as a warrior slave. When an accident of war destroys his bonds of slavery, Paintr must face a difficult choice - to flee for his freedom, or to bind himself to the higher goal of destroying the evil tyrant, Elkon.

Can a man who was once only a slave free the universe?

 The Thrall Wars

The Thrall Wars chronicles the stories of three unlikely heroes - Paintr, Zach Packer, and Stalking Cougar - who find themselves entangled in a constant battle for freedom.

Paintr is a slave on a mining planet whose training in mercenary work and a freak accident bring him extraordinary power. Zach Packer is a cowboy who escapes death time and time again through a series of dirty deals. Stalking Cougar is a Native American shaman whose encounter with a vampire gives him a whole new life.

When the power-hungry Elkon raises an army of soulless humans to take over the universe, Paintr, Zach Packer, and Stalking Cougar must band together to save humanity, and themselves.

Excerpt from A Shaman's Quest:

I did not know where I was going, and I did not care. I walked through the woods with the smell of blood all around me. I walked through scrub country and out into the cold of the desert. Night drew to an end and I looked for shelter from the heat of day. I came to an outcropping of rock and a small cave; I crawled inside and fell asleep.
It was night when I woke up. The desert was awake, too. I smelled blood, sensed the creatures of the night. My need was great and I did not hesitate; I ran down a hare and cut his throat. I drank until there was no blood left.
I was still very hungry, so I started a fire and cooked the hare. The meat made me sick. I dropped his body on the ground. I was about to go after more blood when I stopped. It was not right to leave the hare like that, its death wasted. But I could not eat it.... I decided to keep parts of the animals I killed and leave the meat for the land.
I ran down small animals and drank their blood late into the night. As dawn approached, I grew tired and went back to the cave. But I was still hungry. I dreamed of drinking the blood of a baby.
